In this article, we will guide you through the process of utilizing GoodNotes for your digital products.

Once you have imported your file into the GoodNotes app, please keep in mind that in order for the hyperlinks and tabs to work on GoodNotes, please ensure the “Read-Only” option is selected. To start writing on pages, click the “Edit-Mode” button.

  1. When you come across the "Read-Only" mode icon, it indicates that you can interact with the hyperlinks in the notebook by clicking on them.

  2. On the other hand, when you see the "Edit" mode icon, it signifies that you have access to the writing tools and can make changes or additions to the content.

Duplicating pages

Feel free to duplicate or copy as many pages as you need in your planner/notebook. You can easily move these pages around and place them wherever you prefer within the planner/notebook. This flexibility allows you to organize your content exactly the way you want it.

  1. Click the "Three Dots" icon located in the upper right corner of the screen.

  2. Click on "Copy Page" from the options that appear to copy the selected page.

  3. Next, click the "Plus +" icon, usually located in the toolbar or menu.

  4. Click on "Paste Page" from the options that appear to paste the copied page into your document.

Here’s another way to duplicate pages

  1. Click the "Thumbnails" icon in the screen's upper left corner.

  2. Locate the page you want to duplicate in the thumbnail view.

  3. Tap on the page to select it.

  4. Click the "Arrow" icon, usually located at the top or bottom of the screen.

  5. From the options that appear, select "Duplicate" to create a copy of the selected page.

Adding covers

For certain planner or notebook covers that come in multiple files, you will first need to import and save these files on your iPad. Once they are saved on your device, you can then import them into the GoodNotes app. This allows you to have access to and use the different cover options within GoodNotes for a personalized and customized experience.

  1. Tap the "Plus" icon located in the upper right corner of the screen.

  2. Select "Import" from the options that appear.

  3. The "Files" app will pop up on your screen, allowing you to navigate through your files.

  4. Locate and tap on the cover file you want to import.

  5. The cover will automatically be imported into your current document in GoodNotes.

  6. The cover will be shown as a thumbnail in the library

Rearranging pages & deleting pages

If you want to move a new or duplicated page to a different location within your document in GoodNotes

Moving Pages

  1. Click the "Thumbnails" icon in the screen's upper left corner.

  2. Select the page you want to move by tapping and holding it. The page will be outlined in blue.

  3. Drag the page to the desired position within the document.

  4. Release your finger to drop the page into the new position.

Deleting Pages

  1. Click the "Select" button.

  2. Tap on the pages you want to delete. Selected pages will be highlighted.

  3. Once the desired pages are selected, tap the "Trash" icon, typically located in the toolbar or menu.

  4. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Adding color scheme

To add a custom color to a tool (pen, highlighter, or text) in GoodNotes

  1. Select the tool (pen, highlighter, or text) that you want to customize.

  2. Click on any color to bring up the color menu.

  3. In the color menu, you will find an option to enter a color code in the "HEX" box.

  4. Enter the new color code in the "HEX" box to specify the desired color.

  5. After entering the new color code, click the "Add to Presets" button.

Elements & Collection Stickers

Prior to importing the file, it's important to be aware that some products in our collection are provided in compressed file formats. You will need to uncompress or unzip these files before proceeding with the import.

From Mac

  1. Locate the ".collection" file on your computer.

  2. Airdrop the file to your iPad. Alternatively, you can right-click on the file and choose "Open With" and select GoodNotes from the options.

  3. GoodNotes will open on your iPad, and you should see a "New Collection" window popup.

  4. Click on "Create" to import the stickers from the ".collection" file into a new collection in GoodNotes.

From iPad

  1. Locate your ".collection" file in the "Files" app on your iPad.

  2. Long press on the ".collection" file to bring up the sharing options.

  3. In the sharing options window, find and click on the "GoodNotes" icon or the "Open in GoodNotes" option.

  4. The GoodNotes app will open, and you will see a "New Collection" window pop up.

  5. Click on "Create" to import the stickers from the ".collection" file into a new collection in GoodNotes.

From Windows

  1. Locate the ".collection" file on your device.

  2. Upload the file to a cloud service of your choice, such as Google Drive, iCloud, or Dropbox.

  3. On your iPad, open the appropriate cloud drive app (e.g., Google Drive).

  4. Locate the uploaded ".collection" file and tap on the "Three-Dot" icon in the upper right corner.

  5. In the drop-down menu, select "Open In" to see available app options.

  6. Choose "GoodNotes" from the list of apps or select "Open in GoodNotes."

  7. GoodNotes will open, and you will see a "New Collection" window pop up.

  8. Click on "Create" to import the stickers from the ".collection" file into a new collection in GoodNotes.

Adding stickers to the "Elements" tool

You can add individual "PNG stickers" or ".collection" files into Elements. If you encounter an unreadable file on your iPad, it may be because the iOS system does not recognize the .collection file. However, you can still import the .collection file directly into GoodNotes.

  1. Save all your stickers into the "Files" app or "Photos" on your iPad.

  2. Open the GoodNotes app and tap on the "Elements" tool.

  3. Tap on the "Split View" icon to activate Split View mode, which allows two apps to appear side-by-side. You can resize the apps by dragging the slider between them.

  4. At the bottom of the Elements window, tap on the "+" icon.

  5. A new collection window will appear. Name your collection to organize your stickers.

  6. Select "Add Photos" or "Import from..." to import your stickers.

  7. In your photos, choose the stickers you want to add and tap on "Add."

  8. The stickers will be added to your collection. Tap on "Create" to finalize the collection (note that if you have a large number of stickers, it may take some time to load).

  9. To use a sticker, simply tap on the element tool and find your collection folder.

  10. Tap on the sticker you want to use. You can resize and move the sticker around until you're satisfied with its size and position.

After extracting a zip file on an iPad, you may notice that the folder containing the uncompressed files still displays a zip icon. This is because the iOS system does not recognize the .collection file format. However, you can still import this file into GoodNotes without any issues.

How to use split screen on iPad?

Using the GoodNotes sticker book or sticker sheet

The sticker book or sticker sheet file typically has the file extension ".goodnotes". This file type is specifically created for use with GoodNotes. Once you import the sticker book/sheet into GoodNotes, you can effortlessly copy and paste the individual stickers into your notebook or planner.

  1. Use the hyperlinked tab to switch to different color stickers if they are available.

  2. Click on the "Lasso" tool located on the toolbar.

  3. Draw a small circle around the sticker you want to use.

  4. To copy the sticker, long-press on it using your Apple Pencil or stylus. This will bring up a small menu.

  5. Tap on "Copy" from the menu.

  6. Go to the page where you want to paste the sticker.

  7. Long-press on the page and select "Paste."

  8. Once the sticker is pasted, you can resize it and move it around to adjust its size and position until you are satisfied.
